At War With My Mind

LORD, bakit?

More than two years ago, after we left our life in the US, the LORD taught me so much about my pride, my prejudices, my lack of faith, and most especially my worldly wisdom.

The LORD is faithful when Scripture said that He would complete the work He began in us. Being corrected hurts, though, and it is so humbling. And after those revelations, I often told myself (and God) that I don’t want to go back to who I was before.

Then recently, I find myself exhibiting the same old me. The pride is still there. The vanity is still there. The know-it-all me is still there. The impatient me is still there. The unkind me is still there.

So, LORD, why?

My constant prayer is for the LORD to give me faith, real faith. We acquire faith when we hear God’s word. Our faith is strengthened when the faith is tested. And that’s what God was doing. He was helping me to understand the truth of His word through a real life experience.

I don’t think I was intentionally being the old me. It just happens. The apostle Paul says in Romans 7:23-24 (NLT), “But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?”

Whoa! My mind is tricking me into believing that I am still the same old me. But I’m not. I have been reborn. I have a new life in Christ. While here on earth, I will continue to exhibit some of my old traits out of habit, but God will take that away in time. God has cleansed away my sin through Jesus! That is no longer me, thanks be to God! I have to fight those lies being whispered in my ear. God is changing me — I will take it a step at a time and I will submit to His Holy Spirit each day so that I will be more and more like Him. Thank You, LORD, for being faithful!

Romans 8:1-2 (NLT)
“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.”
